Is a 5hp outboard large enough to power a 14' flat bottom jon boat?

I have a friend that would sell his older 14' flat bottom jon boat with 5hp two stroke with trolling motor for $250. I was wondering if it would be under powered when fishing on the Mississippi.

On the Mississippi, yes. That bugger has some currents that are too swift for a 5 horse to buck. On a normal lake, where you'd normally use a John boat, the 5HP would be adequate.
