I have a 1976 mercury 9.8 outboard and there is a little bit of tiny metal flakes all over the power head?

where is this coming from? the boat moter runs great but where is the metal flakes coming from also the motor is not a electric start

Under the flywheel sounds like a charge coil may be lose or something is rubbing the flywheel> don't run it till you find out what happened or the $ will go up>
