Sensitive Snare
Question For Marching Band Snare Drummers?
Hey their, so if noticed every time I go up in the stands to play music at football games at the end there are parts on my hands that are worn and sensitive, does this mean i'm incorrectly gripping the stick or gripping to tight? (I use traditional grip)
The wear on your hands depends on several factors. Most notably the duration of playing. Obviously, playing for five minutes is less wearing than playing for an hour. Another factor could be the stick size (relative to your hand size). What size are you using? I would think that too tight of a grip would make your fingers cramp up as well as make your skin raw.
What happens after a practice session (at home for example). Same grip? Same size sticks?
When I played surdo, I found I would get two large blisters on my maillot hand. Then I started using a glove on that hand. I imagine that your band has proscribed uniforms, so that may not be an option.
Also, are your sticks coated? Do they have an anti-slip grip? Because those can chew up your skin quickly.
