How do you keep a drum set safe in a uncontrolled room environment?

Me and my band wants to put a drum set in the garage for our youth group, but the thing is is that the room does not really have heating in the winter so the temperature would go up and down then.

theres not a whole lot you can do to keep it safe in there, to be honest. wood naturally contains moisture. storing drums in a cold or hot climate is not a bad thing. its when the temperature goes up and down and up and down,THATS what is bad for drums. its the fluctuations that causes the wood to degrade and warp. the moisture constantly freezing and then thawing will cause the wood to expand and contract often, which is very bad for anything made of wood that isnt treated for outdoor climate. i would suggest:
a) get a crap drum set that you can store there for practice. get a cheap 250$ kit from craigslist, one that you wont mind getting ruined. save your favorite kit for recording or shows.
b) just move your kit for each practice.

i would highly recommend not storing them in fluctuating temperatures. good luck!
