Fabricating custom body parts?
I'm in the design stage of a custom car I'm going to build. It's a mix of fabricated and aftermarket parts, but it needs to look like nothing else on the road and I need to be able to make custom body panels.
Are fiberglass body panels feasible? Weight is a concern.
Would it be cheaper to buy fiberglass / resin and build molds or to contract someone for this? Time and effort is not a concern.
If I contract the work what material should I use and does anyone know a company that fabricates it?

Fiberglass is the way to go, but can be expensive. These steps are the best way to go as far as fiberglass panels.
Step 1 Buck
You buck can be made of anything as long as it can be made hard and smooth. cardboard and bondo will work. You will want to paint it and get as smooth a finish as possible.
Step 2 Mold
You simply cover your buck in some kind of mild release then as fiberglass in sections broken up to make the hold removable once they have hardened but still make them easy to line up and clamp together again once they are pulled from the buck. Rope soaked in resin can be added to the backside to make the mold more rigid. Be careful, pulling the mold before the it fully sures can cause unwanted warping
Step 3 final panel
So get the final panel you apply mold release to the inside of your panel. Then build up fiberglass on the inside of the panels until you get your desired thickness. Be sure to let the part fully cure before pulling from the mold.
Keeping the molds around can be a lifesaver in the future just in case of a accident or if someone wants to buy panels from you. just pop another part out of the mold.
