Tuned Finger
What are the finger positions for a guitar tuned to open d?
I just tuned my guitar to open D and was wondering how i now play standard chords like G and so on. I just dont know the fingering for em.
Why would you tune to an alternate tuning and not know how to utilize it?
Learn the chromatic scale.
A - A#/Bb - B - C - C#/Db - D - D#/Eb - E - F - F#/Gb - G - G#/Ab.
When tuned to opened D playing all the strings without any fingerings you sound a D Major chord. Look at the chromatic scale. What comes after D? D#/Eb. When you place your finger across all the strings at the first fret, or barr the second fret while tuned to open D you sound a D# /Eb Major chord.
More homework; look up the word Enharmonic.
Follow the scale up the neck. Third fret you will get E Major, Fourth fret you get F Major, and so on.
Alternately for a G Major instead of barring the fifth fret it can be played as follows.
You can read tabs can’t you?

With the D, G, A, and Bm you have enough chords to play a song. I = D, IV = G, V = A, vi = Bm.
Twelve-bar blues or any combination of the chords I , IV and V.
I - vi - IV - V : the 50s progression. Modern examples include "Jesus of Suburbia" (Green Day), "Welcome to my Life", Simple Plan, (also I - vi - ii - V)
I - V - vi - IV : for example 'Dammit' (Blink-182), 'Feeling This' (Blink-182), 'No Woman, No Cry' ([Bob Marley]), 'Farmhouse' ([Phish]) 'Glycerine' (Bush), 'With or Without You' (U2), 'Let It Be' (The Beatles), 'On Fire' (Switchfoot), 'Hide and Seek' (Imogen Heap). In fact, almost all pop punk bands have at least several of their songs encompassing this chord progression. This progression uses the same chords as the 50s progression, in a different order.
I - I - IV - V : for example the verse of 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)' by Green Day and the verse of Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones.
vi - IV - I - V : a progression in Major. One of the most common progressions nowadays. Used in many genres, including pop, rock, techno, punk, metal and many others. For example, 'The Kid's Arent Alright' (The Offspring), 'Dammit I Changed Again' (The Offspring), 'Self Esteem' (The Offspring), 'Crawling' (Linkin Park), 'Numb' (Linkin Park), 'Hands Held High' (Linkin Park), 'Don't Drag Me Down' (Social Distortion), 'Let U Go' (ATB), 'Jokero' (Akcent), 'Believe' (Yellowcard), 'Holiday' (Green Day), 'White Shadows' (Coldplay), 'My Happy Ending' (Avril Lavigne), 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' (Kelly Clarkson), 'Pieces' (Sum 41), 'Still Waiting' (Sum 41), 'Zombie' (The Cranberries), 'Save Tonight' (Eagle-Eye Cherry), '*Fin' (Anberlin), 'Disarm' (Smashing Pumpkins).
from here you need some lessons in intervals, scales, and chord theory.
When you learn this you will be able to, find for yourself any chord you want in any tuning.
