Water Resistant
How water-resistant should my new watch be to swim?
I am looking to buy a watch which is 30.5m (100ft) water resistant.
I am looking to wear it all the time, washing, in the bath, in the pool etc. Maximum of 2-3meters under water. But a while ago somone told me that to go swimming at 2-3meters you need at least 100meter water resistant.
What is correct?
I've had my "50m" water resistant watch for more than 10 years and it hasn't leaked yet (used it for swimming in the pool and sea and while having showers, surfing etc.). However a) it's inconvenient in real swimming anyway (prefer to wear not more than my speedos and it ruins the laminar hydrodynamics around your hand), b) pools have clocks and c) the chlorine or salt ruin the wrist band and possibly parts of the case.
